Welcome to the Ultimate Air Force Basic Training Blog! I’m Nicholas Van Wormer, author of the upcoming book The Ultimate Air Force Basic Training Guide Book. This book, which is being released this month, is the ultimate guide for anyone joining, or even thinking of joining the US Air Force. But My Friend Said…: Even though everyone does the same training at BMT, everyone has their own unique experiences. Here’s how to know what stories to listen to and which ones to ignore.

Where to get the book? The Ultimate Air Force Basic Training Guide Book is available for pre-order at www.ultimatebasictraining.com
I am leaving for basic training in 30 days! Dec 14th! I was wondering if you could to a video about how to roll shirts/socks/etc? That would be awesome! Or maybe how to make the beds? I would also love some advice on how to manage our time between studying, prepping uniforms, cleaning the dorms, etc. Thank you for this blog! This is awesome! And I will definitely go check out Books-A-Million tomorrow for your book!
ReplyDeleteHi Krys,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you are finding this blog useful. I know you will find the book useful as well. Books-A-Million does have it to order, and if you want it faster, order it directly from www.UlitimateBasicTraining.com. There is an entire chapter dedicated to uniform preparation including socks, shirts etc. But since you asked, I will make a video about how to quickly prepare your socks for inspection. The next two videos that are going to be posted deal with fitness tips for BMT. I'll make sure to get the sock preparation one up before Dec 14th.
As far as managing your time during BMT, it is really managed for you. You don't have any choice of what you are doing or when. You are told, "Clean now! Study now! Prepare for inspections now!" And there is really no down time.
Let me know what you think of the book. I spent two years writing it and worked hard to insure the content is practical advice for everyone enlisting in the Air Force. Good Luck!
Thanks so much! I appreciate the immediate feedback! I think I'm going to order your book from UBT.com because I would like to get it as soon as possible! Again, I appreciate the immediate feedback! I am headed to my recruiter's office tomorrow, and I'm going to give the other DEP'rs your blog and book info as well as my recruiter so he can pass the info along to his applicants! This is really great info!
ReplyDeleteI wish to find ur website couple of weeks before ... my son it's at BMT right now ... the first ph call which I got from him was about how hard is to make the bed!
ReplyDeleteNicholas do u have information in ur book about Tech School?
Ur website is wonderful!
There isn't anything in the book about tech school because each one is different.
DeleteThe best advice for tech school is not to go crazy. People come out of basic training and get a little bit of freedom at tech school and do stupid things. Remind your son that tech school is a very short part of his military career and to focus on his work while he is there. His grades and attitude at tech school are all noted in a report card and sent to his first duty station. The first impression his new unit will have of him will come from his report card from tech school. This being said there will still be time for him to take advantage of the freedoms of tech school and make some long lasting friends.
Hey I was just curious. I leave for basic training in about two weeks. I was wondering.. I'm not very hold at running or pushups. Basically I've been struggling. Is it still possible to enter basic training not very prepped & still pass? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Meagan,
ReplyDeleteYes. The main thing to remember is that you improve your running and pushups during basic training. You will get many opportunities to practice, it is up to you to put as much effort into your physical training at BMT so that you will pass the final test. Push yourself during BMT and you will pass. Good Luck!
So is the push up sit up time 1 minute or two?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Push up and sit up time is 1 minute, and it is a 1.5 mile run for the fit test. However you will also have to do a two minute run, so when preparing don't stop running at 1.5 miles. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to start by saying you are nothing short of a godsend. From the day I walked into my local recruiters office to the day I received my ship date and AFSC (Security Forces) almost a year had gone by. During that time I've prided myself on spending countless hours researching all that it is to be a model Airman. In all that time your tips have been the most helpful by far. Now I ship out on 4 June 2012 and I take solace in knowing I've been given the tools to truly Aim High (sorry for the bad pun). I can only hope that the rest of my Flight Mates have come here for true and objective information that will help make our flight strong. Thank you
ReplyDeleteMichael, I am so glad that I have been able to help in your preperations for basic training. After waiting a year to ship out 9 weeks will go by so fast. Have fun at BMT and at tech school. I look forward to welcoming you to the SF family!
DeleteI actually recieved your book from a local sheriffs deputy who was going to go in until he landed his job as a police officer. He let me have the book and I must say it is filled with amazingly helpful info. I leave on the 14th of august so I have less than two weeks to go but I feel like I am well prepared. Just need to get more used to running which might be a challenge.
